How Often Does ‘I Should’ Make Your Decisions?

You finally have a free afternoon. There’s nothing urgent that needs your attention, and you’ve been looking forward to having some time to yourself.
So why do you suddenly feel like you should be doing something productive?
Maybe you start thinking about the housework you haven’t finished, the emails you could catch up on, or the things you promised yourself you’d accomplish this week.
Even when we have a choice about how to spend our time, our internal expectations can have a surprising amount of influence.
And it goes well beyond productivity.
We carry expectations about how much we should help others, what we should have accomplished at different stages of life, how we should handle challenges, and what it means to be responsible or successful.
Many of these expectations have been with us for years. Some are genuinely useful. Others may have developed under circumstances that have since changed.
Join me for a free 15 to 20-minute livestream where we’ll take a closer look at the familiar “I should” thoughts that influence our decisions, often without much conscious consideration.
We’ll explore:
– Why certain expectations become so familiar that we respond to them automatically
– How experiences, relationships, and environments shape what we believe we’re supposed to do
– The different ways internal pressure can show up in our work, relationships, and personal lives
– How to recognize when an expectation deserves a little more consideration
– What we might discover by pausing before responding to a familiar “should”
I’ll also introduce What’s Behind the “Should?”, a free three-experience challenge from Resilient Self Growth.
The challenge invites you to pay attention to the “should” thoughts that appear throughout your day, become curious about where one recurring expectation may have come from, and experiment with giving yourself a moment to consider it before responding.
You don’t have to abandon responsibilities, reject expectations, or make any major changes. Sometimes the most useful discovery is simply recognizing why something feels like an obligation in the first place.
If you’ve ever felt guilty about resting, agreed to something because you thought you were supposed to, or wondered why you hold yourself to certain expectations, there’s plenty for us to talk about.
